The Jade Money Tree is commonly known as an evergreen succulent. Smooth, rounded leaves, with pale-pink flowers. Yes that's correct, it does flower! As with most succulents, the Jade Money Tree is one of the easiest bonsai to look after. Even if you don't water your Jade bonsai regularly, chances are your it is still well alive and healthy. Hence, this is a great option for beginners starting out in their bonsai journey.
In Australia, there are two main types of Jade Money Tree commonly cultivated as bonsai:
- Portulacaria afra
- Portulacaria afra "Variegata"
Position - Full sun, warm location. Minimum temperature 10°C (50°F).
Watering - Moderate. Every three to four weeks in cool conditions.
Feeding - Monthly from late spring through to early autumn.
Repotting - Every second year in spring.
Pruning - Pinch back new shoots in spring, prune branches throughout growing season. Remove leaves from trunk.
Propagation - Cuttings.
Styles - Informal upright, twin-trunk, clump. Suitable for all sizes.
